Glow Up Journal Prompts: 50 for a Real Reset
Glow up journal prompts are questions that help you figure out what you want to change, plan the habits to get there, track what you actually did and stay kind to yourself on rough days. The 50 prompts below are organized by week: reflect, plan, track and celebrate, plus a set for hard days. At the end there's a page layout you can copy into any notebook or notes app.
If your journal keeps asking "what do I work on?" and you don't know, Glowmaxx scores one selfie and names your lowest area. Start my glow-up
How to start a glow up journal
You don't need a fancy glow up planner or a $30 notebook. You need something you'll open every day.
Pick your format
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| Paper notebook | People who like writing by hand and want phone-free time |
| Notes app | People who'll forget a notebook but never forget their phone |
| Printed page | People who want a glow up journal template to fill in |
| Google Doc | People who want to search old entries |
Set a five-minute rule
Write for five minutes, max, most days. One prompt per day. Longer entries are fine, but five minutes is what keeps a glow up journal alive past week two.
The four-week structure
- Week 1: Reflect
- Week 2: Plan
- Week 3: Track
- Week 4: Celebrate (and prompts for hard days any time)
Repeat the cycle each month. That's your 30 day glow up journal.
Prompts to reflect (week 1)
Reset journal prompts to figure out where you are right now. Be honest; nobody's reading this.
- What does "glow up" mean to me, in one sentence?
- When did I last feel really good about myself? What was different?
- What's one habit I know is holding me back?
- What do I actually like about how I look right now?
- Which part of my routine do I skip most, and why?
- Who do I compare myself to most? How does it make me feel?
- What would my best friend say I'm good at?
- What's draining my energy at school, uni or work?
- What am I proud of from the last three months?
- If nothing changed in a year, how would I feel?
- What's one thing in my glow up I can change, and one I'm going to stop worrying about?
- What does a good day look like for me, start to finish?
Mental glow up journal prompts
- What thought do I repeat about myself that isn't true?
- Which people make me feel calm? Which make me feel small?
- What boundary do I need but haven't set?
Prompts to plan (week 2)
Now turn reflection into a glow up list. Plan small.
- What are my three glow up goals for this month? (Keep them specific: "SPF every morning," not "better skin.")
- What's the tiniest version of each goal I could do on my worst day?
- What time of day will I do each habit?
- What's going to get in the way, and what's my backup?
- What do I need to buy, borrow or set up? (A cheap moisturizer, a durag, a water bottle.)
- What's one thing I'll stop doing this month?
- Who can I tell about my plan so I stick to it?
- What will my routine look like on a school day vs a weekend?
- What does my glow up vision board look like? List five images or words.
- What's the one-line reason I'm doing this?
Glow up list ideas to pick from
- Bedtime at the same time every night
- Cleanse, moisturize, SPF
- 20-minute walk
- Water bottle refilled twice
- Haircut or trim booked
- Phone down 30 minutes before bed
- Posture reset when you walk into class
- Practice photos by a window once a week
Week 2 is where most people guess. You write "fix skin" or "look better" because you honestly can't tell what's holding you back most, and it's hard to judge your own face fairly. Glowmaxx scores one selfie on skin, hair, grooming, posture and angle, and light and fit, each out of 10 with a short note, and gives three moves for today aimed at your lowest. Write those into your plan. Start my glow-up
Prompts to track habits (week 3)
Habit tracker ideas plus prompts for checking in. Short answers are fine.
- Which habits did I do today? Which did I skip?
- What made today's habit easy or hard?
- How did I sleep last night (time in bed, how I felt)?
- How's my skin today compared to last week?
- Did I feel more confident at any point today? When?
- What's one thing I noticed about my posture today?
- Did I compare myself to anyone online today? What did I do about it?
- What's one tiny win from today?
- Which habit is becoming automatic?
- What should I change about my plan for next week?
A simple habit tracker
Draw a grid: habits down the side, days across the top. Tick or dot each day. Don't erase misses. Seeing a gap and then the restart is part of the story.
Prompts for hard days
Self care journal prompts for days when the glow up feels fake and everything's off. Use these any week.
- What am I feeling right now, in three words?
- What's the smallest thing I can do to feel 5% better?
- Is this a bad day or a bad week? What's different?
- What would I tell a friend who felt like this?
- What's one thing I did today that counts, even if it's small?
- What can I let go of tonight?
- Who could I text right now?
- What will tomorrow-me thank me for doing tonight?
If hard days pile up, please talk to someone you trust, a school counselor or a doctor. A journal is for reflection, not a replacement for support.
Prompts to celebrate (week 4)
The week most people skip. Don't.
- What changed this month, even a little?
- Which habit am I keeping no matter what?
- What's a compliment I got (or gave myself) this month?
- What surprised me about my own glow up?
- What did I learn about what works for me?
- Compare your day-one photo and today's photo. What do I notice?
- What's next month's one focus?
Pair prompts with affirmations
End each entry with one line from our glow up affirmations list, or a line from our short glow up quotes. It makes the page feel finished.

Glow up journal for guys and girls
Same layout, different habits. Guys might track barber dates, lifting or waves. Girls might track hair care, nails or a protective style. The structure doesn't care; your list does.
If you've got a deadline coming, use this journal alongside our senior year glow-up plan.
Fill your journal with real numbers
Glow up journal prompts work best when you know what to write about. In the next minute, take one selfie and get a score out of 10 for skin, hair, grooming, posture and angle, and light and fit, three moves for today, and a timeline where only the numbers stay. That's your week-1 reflect page, written for you.
FAQ
What should I write in a glow up journal?
Start with where you are (reflect), then pick three small habits (plan), check them off daily (track) and note what changed (celebrate). One prompt and a habit tracker per day is enough.
What are good glow up journal ideas for teens?
Try prompts like "What's one habit holding me back?" and "What's the smallest version of my goal?" Add a habit tracker for sleep, skin and movement. Keep entries to five minutes so you stick with it.
Is there a free glow up journal PDF?
You can copy the page layout in this post into a doc, print it, or save it as a PDF yourself. That way it has exactly the habits you're tracking.
How do I start a 30 day glow up journal?
Use the four-week cycle: reflect in week 1, plan in week 2, track in week 3 and celebrate in week 4. Take a day-one photo at the start and compare at the end.
What's the difference between a glow up journal and a glow up planner?
A glow up planner is mostly schedules and checklists. A glow up journal adds prompts to reflect and handle hard days. The layout above combines both.
