Color Analysis Printable: Free At-Home Worksheet
This color analysis printable is a one-page worksheet you can print or copy into your notes app. It walks you through three sections: undertone (warm or cool), depth (light or deep) and chroma (bright or soft), and then a score sheet turns your answers into one of 12 seasons. Do it in daylight by a window, bare-faced, and it takes about 20 minutes.
If you'd rather skip the scoring math and get a season straight away, Swatch Fan asks the same kinds of yes-or-no questions and gives you your result with no selfie. Find my colors
What's on the color analysis worksheet
Most "color analysis printable PDF" results are scraped documents with no instructions. This one is built to be used:
- Section 1: Undertone checks (4 tests, tally warm vs cool)
- Section 2: Depth and contrast (3 questions, tally light vs deep)
- Section 3: Chroma (3 drape pairs, tally bright vs soft)
- Score sheet that maps your tallies to a season
- Notes box for colors that surprised you
Copy everything in the gray boxes below onto paper, or print this page (most browsers: Share or File, then Print).
Before you start: light and setup checklist
Your results are only as good as your light. Tick each one:
- Daytime, ideally late morning to mid-afternoon
- Facing a window, not in harsh direct sun
- All lamps and ceiling lights off
- No makeup, no tinted moisturizer, no self-tan
- Dyed hair pulled back or covered with a white towel
- Wearing a white or gray top (or a towel over your clothes)
- A mirror, plus a friend if possible (a second pair of eyes helps)
What you'll need: a silver and a gold item, a bright white and a cream top or fabric, and pairs of colored tops (see Section 3).
Section 1: undertone checks
Circle one answer per test. W = warm, C = cool, N = neutral/can't tell.
| Test | What to do | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Veins | Look at your inner wrist. Green = W, blue/purple = C, mix = N | W / C / N |
| 2. Metals | Silver vs gold near your face. Gold better = W, silver better = C | W / C / N |
| 3. White vs cream | Cream looks healthier = W, bright white looks cleaner = C | W / C / N |
| 4. Sun | Tan golden easily = W, burn pink first = C | W / C / N |
Tally: W ___ C ___ N ___
How to read it
- 3–4 W: warm undertone (Spring or Autumn family)
- 3–4 C: cool undertone (Summer or Winter family)
- Mixed or mostly N: neutral-leaning. You're likely a "soft," "light" or "deep" season where undertone is secondary.
Heads up: the vein test on its own isn't very reliable, especially on deeper skin where veins are harder to see. That's why there are four tests, not one.
Section 2: depth and contrast
Circle one per question. L = light, D = deep.
- Natural hair (roots or childhood photos if dyed): blonde to light brown = L, dark brown to black = D
- Eyes: light blue, gray, green, light hazel = L, dark brown, deep hazel, black-brown = D
- Overall look in a black-and-white photo of yourself: mostly light grays = L, deep tones = D
Tally: L ___ D ___
Contrast bonus question
Is there a big jump between your hair and skin (like dark hair, fair skin)? High contrast often points Winter or Bright seasons. Little difference? Low contrast often points Summer, Soft or Light seasons. Note it in the box: ______
Section 3: chroma (bright or soft)
Chroma is how clear or muted colors look on you. Drape each pair under your chin for five seconds each and circle the winner. B = bright, S = soft.
| Pair | Bright option | Soft option | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Hot pink | Dusty rose | B / S |
| B | Cobalt or royal blue | Slate or dusty blue | B / S |
| C | Emerald or kelly green | Sage or olive | B / S |
Tally: B ___ S ___
Look at your face, not the fabric. The winner makes your skin look smoother and your eyes look brighter, with no shadows or grayness.
The honest problem with this section
This is where most people get stuck. By pair C, you've forgotten what pair A looked like, the clouds moved, and every color starts to look "fine." That's normal; it's genuinely hard to judge your own face.
Let the questions do the scoring. Swatch Fan turns undertone, depth and contrast clues into yes-or-no questions about your veins, jewelry, hair, eyes and tanning, then gives you a season with 12 named colors and hex codes. No drapes, no tallies, no photo. Find my colors
Scoring to a season
Use your three tallies. Find your strongest trait first, then your second.
| Strongest trait | Second trait | Likely season |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Warm | Light Spring |
| Light | Cool | Light Summer |
| Deep | Warm | Deep Autumn |
| Deep | Cool | Deep Winter |
| Bright | Warm | Bright Spring |
| Bright | Cool | Bright Winter |
| Soft | Warm | Soft Autumn |
| Soft | Cool | Soft Summer |
| Warm (clear) | Bright-ish | True Spring |
| Warm (muted) | Soft-ish | True Autumn |
| Cool (soft) | Light-ish | True Summer |
| Cool (clear) | Deep-ish | True Winter |
Color analysis examples
- Example 1: C 4, L 3, S 2. Strongest = cool, then light → between True Summer and Light Summer. Try both palettes. (If that's you, read how to know if you're a Light Summer.)
- Example 2: W 3, D 3, S 3. Warm, deep and soft all strong → Deep Autumn or Soft Autumn; compare dark chocolate vs soft camel.
- Example 3: N 3, D 3, B 3. Neutral undertone, deep and bright → Bright Winter or Deep Winter.
If two seasons tie, that's normal. Neighbor seasons share colors.
Print or use it on your phone
Make your own color palette printable
Once you have a season, write your best colors in a grid of 12 boxes and color them in with pencils or markers. Stick it inside your wardrobe door or slide it into your phone case.

Screenshot the three tables above, or copy them into your notes app. Doing it with a friend? Run it at a color analysis party and give everyone a sheet.
Tips for teens using the worksheet
- Do it with a parent, sibling or friend, not alone at 1 a.m.
- Use your natural hair color, not this month's dye.
- Nobody's season is better than anyone else's. It's a shopping tool.
Skip the tally and get your palette
A color analysis printable is a great way to learn the three dials, but you don't have to finish the math to get an answer. Swatch Fan gives you your season from yes-or-no questions, your 12 colors with hex codes (perfect for your own palette printable), 6 lipstick shades and 6 hair colors, and a camera check for any top you're eyeing. It's free to start.
FAQ
Is there a free color analysis printable PDF?
You can print this page as your free worksheet: open your browser's print option and save it as a PDF. It includes undertone, depth and chroma checks plus a score sheet.
What's on a color analysis test printable?
A good one includes undertone tests (veins, metals, white vs cream, sun), depth questions (hair, eyes, overall lightness) and chroma drape pairs, then a way to score them into a season. Setup instructions about daylight matter just as much.
How do I use a color analysis template at home?
Sit facing a window in daylight with no makeup, do each test in order, circle your answer, and tally each section. Your strongest and second-strongest traits point to your likely season.
Can I make a color palette printable for my season?
Yes. Once you know your season, draw a grid of 12 boxes and fill them with your best colors. If you have hex codes, you can also make a digital version for your phone.
What if my color analysis checklist gives two seasons?
That's common, because neighbor seasons share colors. Try clothes from both palettes in daylight for a week, or use a no-selfie quiz like Swatch Fan as a tie-breaker.
